Waiting

Chanrda, Liliana, Vivien, and Wrenn are waiting on Dominaria in one of Liliana’s safe houses. Their plan is to wait for up to 2 weeks for the strike team from New Phyrexia to return. If they don’t hear news by then, they will assume the worse has happened and warn everyone of the pending invasion. They all deal with having to just sit around and wait in their own ways, but they are all desperate for any news on what happened to the strike team.

The Wait Is Over

With the war-horn boom of Tyvar’s planeswalk onto Dominaria, Chandra looks up and sees two more figures limping into the safe house. She is afraid that the news might be bad, but she can’t stand waiting any longer and heads straight for the safe house.

“We were right about the tree. They have their own. It’s corrupted, twisted—”

“They out-planned us. Had an answer for everything—”

“Shaping reality to whatever they want—”

New Phyrexia strike team

Loss

Kaya tells the group that Nissa didn’t make it and Chandra takes it extremally hard. Deep down she already knew but didn’t want to believe it. Liliana thinks that Jace must be coming any minute now right behind the other strike team members. Kaya informs Liliana that he didn’t make it either. Liliana tries to not show it but her hands tremble as she tries to heal the injured members. They also inform the group that Nahiri was taken, Espelth didn’t make it, and the Wanderer is probably headed back home. Recall that the barrier that Elesh Norn erected around New Phyrexia made it so the Wanderer couldn’t anchor herself to the plane and vanished soon after arriving.

Always Running

Liliana sees Chandra getting upset and wanting to rush head first into the fight. She doesn’t think that there is much to be done at this point. She walks out the door and disappears.

I Just know funeral bells when I hear them. I wish you all the best on your little adventure.

Oh, there’s no time for waiting. You said so yourself.

Liliana

Burning Desire

Chandra is overwhelmed at the news that Nissa didn’t make it back. She wants to rush head first to New Phyrexia and do whatever she can to stop the invasion at the source. The others try to talk her down, explaining that the strike team had a plan and they barely made it out alive. Chandra refuses to give up on Nissa, and says that there must be a way to reverse what happened to her. Chandra leaves the safe house to go on a walk to cool down, and then plans on planeswalking directly to New Phyrexia. Even if that means she will be all by herself.

A New Plan

Chandra takes a moment of rest and runs into Wrenn. Wrenn agrees with Chandra that the best course of action is to attack Realmbreaker at its core. Wrenn points out that if they can save Teferi then there will be at least three of them heading to New Phyrexia which will better their odds.

Being Watched

As Wrenn and Chandra set off to find Teferi and head to New Phyrexia, the story notes that someone is watching them. The watcher is not alone and asks one of them:

What is it we’re seeing? Why are we here?

Mysterious Watcher

We are here to witness the beginning of the end.

Unknown Watcher

That ends chapter 2 of March of the Machine story. Chapter 3 continues here.
