MagicCon: Minneapolis Shows First Look At Upcoming Sets

At MagicCon: Minneapolis Wizards of the Coast hosted a panel packed with information on upcoming product releases. Information on Wilds of Eldraine, Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth, Commander Masters, and Doctor Who.

Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth is available for preorder on boarshatgaming.com. Lets dive in to what was revealed.

Commander Masters – Face Cards Revealed

There are 4 commander decks coming in Commander Masters, we previously saw the names and colors of each deck but not the face card for any of them. The face cards for each deck were finally revealed, check them out below:

Eldrazi Unbound
Enduring Enchantments
Planeswalker Party
Sliver Swarm

Commander Masters – Booster Only Cards

There are some cards that will be unique to booster packs in Commander Masters. Here is an example of two of them shown at the panel including a unique art for Sevala, Heart of the Wilds.

Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth

Upcoming direct-to-modern set Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth had one of its mechanics finally explained. Some cards state “the Ring tempts you”, we now get to see what the mechanic does.

Wilds of Eldraine

The next standard legal Magic set coming after March of the Machine: Aftermath will be Wilds of Eldraine. It was a very popular plane the first time we visited, with some very powerful cards The Great Henge, Oko, Thief of Crowns and more. We finally know that it will land in September later this year with Prerelease on September 1st & 2nd. They then provided the packaging for the set and art from some of the cards to wet our appetite while we wait for more details.

Walking Dead Secret Lair Reprint

The cards from the Walking Dead secret lair will be reprinted as Universes Within versions in The List in Wilds of Eldraine. This is similar to what they did with the Stranger Things secret lair cards, here is an example:

Doctor Who – New Commander Mechanic

The Doctor Who set coming out in October this year introduces a new mechanic. Doctor’s Companion: You can have two commanders if the other is a Doctor. This will allow for commander decks with multiple commanders without them having to have the partner ability on them.
